Finally got my hands on one of the new Game of Thrones articulated action figures from Funko!
Iv been eagerly anticipating the release of these and waiting with bated breath for my local stores to get them in. Iv had to wait a bit longer then I hoped, too, because the first time attempted to pick up Daenerys, she was already sold out. Bummer. But its been well worth the wait!
As usually from Funko, the sculpt is absolutely gorgeous. The detailing on her clothes and hair is phenomenal, and although the face mold isn’t the most accurate to the actress Iv seen, its certainly not the worst either. She looks just great! Shes also way more articulated then I ever dreamed. Shes got the usual articulated points at the shoulders, elbow wrist, as well as thigh, knee, ankle. But shes also articulated at the waist and can turn this way and that, as well as bend over backwards!
Of course as I have also found with Funko, the paint job isn’t the greatest and there are certainly a few smudges on my figure. I also wish the elbow joints had been fully painted!
All in all though she looks amazing…. and absolutely gorgeous from the back, too 😀
Word of caution though; if you want to display her with the dragon perched upon her shoulder and not loose the darn thing, I would recommend gluing that sucker in place. He dosnt stay very well.
As you may recall, I started off my Funko Pop! collection with Daenerys from Game of Thrones, which is a fantasticly awesome figure that just begged to have friends with it. I knew however that I couldn’t just start collecting Pop!s all willy-nilly or else I would very quickly be drowning in a sea of the things. There are so many of them, it was just a rabbit hole I was unwilling to venture down. So, I decided on a focus for my Funko purchases, and settled on bad-ass princesses, so here we are.
The most obvious first companion to Danny was She-Ra, the Princess of Power! The two of them can chill out and discuss being bad-ass royalty together.
Iv wanted a She-Ra figure for a while, but none of the She-Ras out there really speak to me much, except maybe for this one, but the original doll version is….aaahh, not really my thing. But the Funko Pop! figure looks spectacular and I am thrilled that she finally arrived. She is a really cool figure and a brilliant addition to my collection.
I was thrilled a couple of weeks ago to find Twilight Sparkle in the local nerd store, and scooped her up in moments. Shes utterly adorable, with her sculpted muzzle and little sitting position. I really like the Funko Pop! pony sculpts, and think they did a fine job with them.
Now, I have found with the Pop! figures that sometimes the paint job is a little sloppy, and my Twilight is the worst offender of my three Pop! figures. She does have quite a few spots where the colours are uneven, most noticeably that missing bit on the tip of her horn. So that is kind of disappointing, but Ill probably be able to fix it up a bit later.
Heres Twilight next to the regular brushable mane Twilight. As you can see the colours are much more accurate to the show on the Funko Pop! version.
Next Ill be on the lookout for Merida and Princess Bubblegum :3
Today I picked up the Funko Pop! figure of Daenerys.
Its the first Funko Pop! figure Iv ever bought. Iv never really been the hugest fan of the Funko Pop! line, but I am a huge fan of Danny and this is (so far) the only official Danny figure.
Shes one in a series of Game of Thrones figures. Shes really cute, and has great molded hair. She is sporting her Dothraki outfit from the first season and is shown with one of her dragons.
I sort of wish that they hadn’t included a dragon because she has THREE dragons, and it seems to me that either all three or none at all should be included in a figure. Perhaps this is her favourite dragon. (Shhhhh don’t tell the other two)
I was pretty excited to get this figure nonetheless. I love Daenerys and wish there was more merchandise around for her! I do wish there was an actual DOLL of her as much as I like this chibi version of her. But this is great for now! The other Funko Pop! figure I really want is the Marvel Loki.
The other day I picked up just the most kickass mug that I have ever owned at Chapters.
They had a whole series of Game of Thrones mugs, one for a bunch of the different houses.
I waffled a bit between Stark and Targaryen (Speaking of Targaryen look at this amazing Daenerys Pullip *_* ) but in the end I decided on Stark because “Winter is Coming” is badass and I am Canadian, so I feel that I have something in common with the Starks.
This is definitely the kind of mug one wants to drink mead out of.
In some slightly related collecting, I picked up a new set of Chessex dice as well.
They didn’t serve me very well in my Pathfinder game last Sunday, but they are very pretty.
Ill give them one more game to roll better or I may not use them anymore.
