Lalaloopsy Girls – Mittens Fluff ‘n Stuff

26 Aug

Mittens01

I have been super stoked for a while seeing that Lalaloopsy was releasing a line of fashion dolls. Iv always loved the Lalaloopsy dolls; I collect the minis and considered getting the mix ‘n match dolls. The main line is adorable, but a bit too large for me. But these ones really did it for me, and I was so excited when my Toys R Us got them in.

The first I’ve picked up is Mittens Fluff ‘n Stuff, one of the cutest of their line of characters. I’ve always loved Mittens’s snuggly winter coats and cute kitty touque. The bright blue braids are defonatly a big win in my books!
I LOVE the face on these dolls. Shes super adorable but also kind of classy. She looks glamourous at the same time shes sugary sweet.

 Mittens04 Mittens05
The Lalaloopsy Girls dolls have molded hair on their heads, and plastic elasticy hair in pigtails that can be styled. She came with a comb, but I dont think I will be taking her pigtails out of the braids.
The hair also changes colour in cold water! It truely does work, but its pretty light and dosnt last for long, so I wasnt able to get a picture of the effect. Its neat though, I always liked heat activated changes in toys when I was a kid.

I dont generally feel it nesisary to display the doll in the nude, but the Lalaloopsy girls have one of the most unique body molds Iv ever seen. I think her large non-feet are utterly adorable, I almost died with glee when I removed her shoes to find these big blobs. Its sweet and simplistic and very reminisant of the old cloth dolls their look is based on.

Altogether, I think this is a fantastic looking line, and Im looking forward to getting some more 😀

Zecora

Zecora has always been one of my favourite characters in the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic show. And while theres not a lot of merchandise for her, theres certainly more then I ever expected. Getting a Zecora pony was not very expected, and neither was getting a Zecora Equestia Girls doll! So when I saw the Toy Fair photos, I knew this was one I would have to add to the collection.

IMG_1935  IMG_1934 IMG_1936
Now shes got added pink streaks in her hair because she is a part of the “Rainbowfied” line, but I really think Zecora pulls that off nicely, especially with the matching makeup.
I rather love her asymetrical look; she looks punky and classy all at the same time. I was a little skeptical how the earrings would look on top of her head like that, but they end up looking pretty cool IMO. I think that she translated to doll form very well actually, all in all!

I do wish that she had bigger, more prominent stripes though. Shes supposed to be a Zebra, remember?

IMG_1939 IMG_1941 IMG_1942
Now Im sure you already know my feelings about the clothes that the Equestria Girls come in. Really the only EQG outfit Iv liked was Trixies.
This one is… quite possibly my least favourite outfit ever. Its… the skirt, really. I hate the skirt. There, I said it. The jacket is totally cool and the tank is cute, but the skirt is awful.
That said I dont really think any of it suits Zecora specifically because, if youve seen the show at all, Zecora is African.
So you can bet that I will be redressing her sometime soon 🙂

“Plastics” Photo

8 Jun

Today I bring you another photo from my lovely husband Travis.
He is doing a wonderful photography project, photographing various “Nerdy Things”, and this particular photo featured some of my dolls! He seems to very much like the Kurhns. Last time he wanted to photograph inanimate plastic humans, he also picked a Kurhn as well.
Elsa makes an appearance as well there in the background though!
I thought the photo came out lovely, so I thought I would share it.

More of his photography work is found here, and he also has a blog.

Cerise Hood

CeriseHood01

Cerise Hood!
This character is one of my favourites on the Ever After High webisodes, both in look and design and in character and personality. Cerise is super cool looking, with a darker, edgier outfit then most of the others (she is a Rebel, after all!) So when the first images of her as a doll started appearing online, I was super excited. And now I am very glad to have added her to my collection, and shes a stunner!

CeriseHood02 CeriseHood03 CeriseHood04

I absolutly love everything about her outfit, from her red hooded cape, her plaid dress and her stockings/boots combo. She looks freaking awsome. But this doll does of course have one major dissapointment: she does not have wolf ears. The character on the show has wolf ears, in fact there was a whole episode dedicated to the reveal of Cerises “secret”. This is a very odd ommission to me, since Mattel is of course also responsible for the Monster High line, several characters in which do indeed have animal ears. So we know that it isnt as though they dont have the budget or ability to make a unique head mold for this character featuring wolf ears.

Iv been waiting to see if any of the other Cerise releases have the wolf ears, but no dice. Even the Comic Con Exlusive Cerise, which features a completly wolf-ified design (which looks gorgeous by the way, that item is going on my grail list for sure) looks as though it may or may not actually have the wolf ears. So I finally caved and bought the basic Cerise because I do love her a lot, even if the lack of wolf ears greatly dissapoints me.

CeriseHood05 CeriseHood06 CeriseHood07

Everything else about this doll is amazing however. I love all of her accessories, and shes one of the few dolls I am actually displaying with her purse! She also has a slightly darker skintone then the other Ever After High girls (though the lighting in my photos is making it appear a lot more yellow-y then it is in person)
Her straight hair is beautifully cut into bangs. Its a lot longer then it appears in the show, though in the show her hair is always obscured by her hood, so its hard to tell exactly how long her hair actually is. I know a lot of people have expressed dissapointment not to find a cute little bob cut, but I do very much like the length here.

All in all I do love her… Wolf ears or no. Shes one of my favourite characters, so I could hardly pass her up 🙂

Jane Boolittle

5 Jun

JaneBoolitte01

So I’ve actually had Ms. Boolittle for a while now, and just been too lazy to get off my butt and make a blog entry about her! But it’s high time I did because she is absolutly LOVELY!

I’ve been in love with her design since I first laid eyes on her online. Shes a monster of unknown species… her backstory has her being discovered in the jungle as a baby by a researcher named Dr. Boolittle (clearly a referance to one Dr. Doolittle)

JaneBoolittle02 JaneBoolittle03 JaneBoolittle04

Shes got the most delightful purple skin, which I think is absolutly fetshing. (I especially love how it stands out against yellow, oh my)
Her whole outfit is jungle themed and I just adore it. The mis-matched feather earrings and sandals are excellent (with the bigger sandal on the left foot and the bigger earring on the right ear, some of my favourite kind of balance asymetry)
It may be simple little details, but its the simple details on this doll that really stand out.

JaneBoolittle07 JaneBoolittle05   JaneBoolittle06

Details like the cute little blue tattoos under her eyes, or the fact that the shape of her lips is absolutly beautiful and totally unique.  She even has accessories that I enjoy, unusual for me. I love her staff and ADORE her little sloth friend who can ride on her back as a backpack.

Jane is absolutly awsome! And Im so glad I picked her up 🙂

The Redhead

11 May

IMG_1699

Hullo! I haven’t drifted off the face of the blogosphere… I have however, been taking a bit of a break from buying new dolls (just for a short while!).
But since its Mothers Day and all, its a perfect opportunity to blog about a doll that my mother picked up for me a few weeks ago. She found this lovely irish lass and couldn’t help getting her for me (probably because, minus the eye colour, this redheaded lady looks an awful lot like me)

IMG_1698 IMG_1700

She marks the second porcelain doll in my collection, and is traditionally attired and painted. Shes quite pretty, with big curly red hair and a pleasant little smile. I cant tell if the paint on her face was hand done?
She does have lovely clear eyes and long lashes, and in her long forest green dress makes quite the little irish lady. Her hair is quite wild, and I will probably need to find some way to care for it to help tame down some of the frizz and matts that’s its got into over the years.

IMG_1702 IMG_1704

The hat is removable, and on the back of her neck is the only marking I can find on the doll, the numbers 9414. I am trying to discover who made her, so if you have any clues let me know! All in all shes a very sweet little dear and feels right at home next to the other porcelain doll in my collection which was left to me by my grandmother.

Thank you mom for the joyful addition to my collection, and happy Mothers Day 🙂

MAKIE IS COMMING?

24 Mar

Soooo late last night I took a plunge I have been thinking about for a while now.
If you havent heard about Makies, they are super cool. They are BJDs that are totally custom made to your specifications. You use the creator program to design all of the facial structures for your doll, pick out skin colour, eye colour, hair, clothes, ect, and then they are 3D printed. The exact doll you just designed becomes real! Iv seen a few posts about them before and Iv been intrigued and curious to get one myself for a while now. But this was the post that really sinched the desicion for me, and last night I finally ordered my very own Makie.

Goblyn

This is my Makie that I designed as she looks in the Makie creator. Her name is Goblyn, and I ordered her with the soon to be discontinued pale green “pistachio” skin colour. I cant tell you how super excited I am to see how she turns out!!

Makies take about two weeks as they are all made to order, so itll be a liiiitle bit of waiting untill I get to see her in the flesh (in the plastic?)
I ordered her with a very minimal faceup, and will probably be trying my hand at doing some of my own painting on her as well. Shes not just my first Makie doll, but also the very first BJD to my collection, so you can imagine how over the moon impatient I am with excitment!!!

She was pretty darn expensive though, so Ill probably be holding off on buying any new dolls for a while untill Iv paid her off lol.
Dont worry, Ill get Jane Boolittle soon enough!

Elissabat

10 Mar

Elissabat01
Next up on my recent additons: A brand new Monster High that I have had my eyes on since her photos started floating around the Internet.
Her and Jane Boolittle were the two new ones Iv been really excited about, and although my stores have yet to get Jane Boolittle in, I did manag to obtain Elissabat.

Im a huge fan of vampires, and I have a Draculaura already (and indeed there are some other Draculauras I would like to add to my collection). But Elissabat has a certain suave sofistication that Draculaura lacks.

Elissabat06 Elissabat03 Elissabat04

The beautiful dress does a lot, its quasi medieval gothic look is captivating. The simplicity of the design intregues and draws me in. Her hair is immaculatly styled and she just embodies the sleek elegance of “less is more”

Her appeal to me is very similar to that of Raven Queen. Black and purple looks fantastic and her gothic vibe is mysterious and elegant all at once.
Am I saying elegant a lot? Im sorry, she just, WOW.

Elissabat02   Elissabat07 Elissabat05

Shes also crazy photogenic too. She just looks friggen GOOD and I cant get over it. What a delightfully, darkly beautiful vampire lady. :3
Now I just need to track down a Jane Boolittle already!

The Great and Powerful TRIXIE!

4 Mar

Trixie01

Alrighty! Time for some more Equestria Girls!
Iv been seeing (and drooling over) photos of the new Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks line for a while now, and Trixie was especially exciting because – my word, LOOK at that outfit. I know I mostly have just collected the Delux body EQG dolls, but Im kind of making an exception for special characters that arent likely to get multiple releases, such as Trixie here.

Trixie02  Trixie04 Trixie03

Trixie looks great, and this is probably the first time Iv actually been really impressed by a EQG dolls outfit. Her dress is beautiful and super fun, and I love love love the hat she comes with. Everything about this doll just looks phenominal. And she also has actual fully molded feet as well, as do all of these new wave EQG dolls which is a big improvement over the first wave ones with their snap on shoes.

Trixie05 Trixie06 Trixie07

I will say that I DO wish they were releasing fully articulated bodies for all of the dolls in the series though. Hasbro really has to step up the quality levels of these if they actually want to compete seriously with Monster High and Ever After High, both of which have marvelously well articulated bodies for ALL the dolls.
Honestly not the biggest fan of the rigidly straight, unmovable arms and legs, but the doll LOOKS really good regardless.

Raven Queen

19 Feb

RavenQueen01

Newest Ever After High doll to be added to my collection is none other then Raven Queen!
And honestly, while I always thought Maddie was going to be my favourite EAH doll, Raven’s gothic elegance has totally won that spot. I think shes the most gorgeous of the three I have actually. Her dark beauty has thoroughly bewitched me. :3

RavenQueen02 RavenQueen03 RavenQueen04
One of the reasons that I adore these EAH dolls is the absolutely gorgeous medieval fantasy outfits. Monster High is fine, but its all modern fashion which I find kind of boring. EAH’s appeal is all in the lacy old fashioned gowns that look like the walked right out of a fairy tale. Swoon!
Ravens get up is no exception and she looks exquisite. Everything you could want from a gothic evil villainess (made even awesomer by the fact that, if you’ve seen the webisodes, you know shes not actually evil at all!)

RavenQueen05 RavenQueen06 RavenQueen07
Shes also got amazingly styled hair which impressed me a lot more then either Apple or Maddie. The shape the hair takes is perfect, and looks like she walzed right out of the cartoon!

In general Im also finding these dolls to be better quality then the Monster Highs, particularly in the nice stiff joints and all around sturdiness of the dolls. They seem to be built for collecting and displaying!

Ill be keeping my eyes out for Cedar Wood next! 😀
