Lalaloopsy Girls – Mittens Fluff ‘n Stuff

I have been super stoked for a while seeing that Lalaloopsy was releasing a line of fashion dolls. Iv always loved the Lalaloopsy dolls; I collect the minis and considered getting the mix ‘n match dolls. The main line is adorable, but a bit too large for me. But these ones really did it for me, and I was so excited when my Toys R Us got them in.

 
The first I’ve picked up is Mittens Fluff ‘n Stuff, one of the cutest of their line of characters. I’ve always loved Mittens’s snuggly winter coats and cute kitty touque. The bright blue braids are defonatly a big win in my books!
I LOVE the face on these dolls. Shes super adorable but also kind of classy. She looks glamourous at the same time shes sugary sweet.

 
The Lalaloopsy Girls dolls have molded hair on their heads, and plastic elasticy hair in pigtails that can be styled. She came with a comb, but I dont think I will be taking her pigtails out of the braids.
The hair also changes colour in cold water! It truely does work, but its pretty light and dosnt last for long, so I wasnt able to get a picture of the effect. Its neat though, I always liked heat activated changes in toys when I was a kid.

I dont generally feel it nesisary to display the doll in the nude, but the Lalaloopsy girls have one of the most unique body molds Iv ever seen. I think her large non-feet are utterly adorable, I almost died with glee when I removed her shoes to find these big blobs. Its sweet and simplistic and very reminisant of the old cloth dolls their look is based on.

Altogether, I think this is a fantastic looking line, and Im looking forward to getting some more 😀

The Redhead

Hullo! I haven’t drifted off the face of the blogosphere… I have however, been taking a bit of a break from buying new dolls (just for a short while!).
But since its Mothers Day and all, its a perfect opportunity to blog about a doll that my mother picked up for me a few weeks ago. She found this lovely irish lass and couldn’t help getting her for me (probably because, minus the eye colour, this redheaded lady looks an awful lot like me)

She marks the second porcelain doll in my collection, and is traditionally attired and painted. Shes quite pretty, with big curly red hair and a pleasant little smile. I cant tell if the paint on her face was hand done?
She does have lovely clear eyes and long lashes, and in her long forest green dress makes quite the little irish lady. Her hair is quite wild, and I will probably need to find some way to care for it to help tame down some of the frizz and matts that’s its got into over the years.

The hat is removable, and on the back of her neck is the only marking I can find on the doll, the numbers 9414. I am trying to discover who made her, so if you have any clues let me know! All in all shes a very sweet little dear and feels right at home next to the other porcelain doll in my collection which was left to me by my grandmother.

MAKIE Unboxing/Faceup

Goblyns Faceup!

Sooo I got Goblyns faceup done! This is the first time I have ever attempted something like this, so although its not 100% perfect, Im pretty darn happy with how she turned out.
The colours smudged a little more then Id like, and its not quite as symetrical as I would like. BUT I think it turned out pretty awsome for a first attempt and its given her sooo much personality!

   

I always knew I wanted to give her freckles. I wanted kind of the feel of a freckled redhead, but as a goblin instead of a human.
I also always knew that I wanted her eyebrows to match her hair, which is why I requested that her eyebrows be left blank when I ordered her.
Shes also looking a lot more green now that theres some shading and contouring on her face!

   

Aaand shes modeling the second dress I ordered with her, which I think suits her a lot more then the other one. I like the the dark colours on her and the gothic lolita kind of feel.
Someday Ill get her some actual gothic lolita outfits, and I really do want a really big thick pink mohair wig for her too!

Im in love with Makie so much. I really think Makie may end up becomming my BJD of choice ^____^

Meet Goblyn, my Makie!

OMG you guys, my Makie arrived and it is beyond totally awsome!!!
It was a whole lot faster then I thought it would be too, which is pretty cool. It was just over a week from ordering that I recieved the shipping confirmation, and I was over the moon estatic.  Two days later….. THERE SHE WAS. Talk about fast shipping! Although, my anticipation was through the roof for her, so it felt much, much longer. 😀

I have a video of her unboxing in the works to share with you, but in the meantime these are some of the first photos I have taken of her. And Iv taken a LOT of photos because shes so flipping amazing that I just cant resist!!
You cant notice how nice and green her skin colour is in most of these photos as much as I would like, and thats largely to do with the fact that her colouring is very, VERY pale. I expected it to be a smidge darker then this, but its quite nice. When I do a faceup on her it will look darker and greener 🙂

This is the best, most high quality and amazing doll, I have yet purchased. And yes, I can totally see myself getting more in the future 😀
She is of course my first ever BJD and….oooohhhhh my, I am in love. The way she moves and poses is so fluid and maleable. Compaired to the rest of my dolls, shes practically real!
She feels quite light, but also sturdy. Her texture is rough from the 3D printing process, and she almost feels as though she is made from wood.

The more I look at pictures of Makies, the more I really really love them. When I first saw them I thought they looked a little odd and slightly eerie, but now Im so used to how they look.
They feel like they have a lot more character and personality then any other doll out there and I love that.
I am of course going to be doing a faceup on her! I specifically requested that her eyebrows be left blank because I want to paint her eyebrows myself. It will be the first faceup I have ever attempted…. so wish me luck! Ill be doing that early this comming week sometime.

Altogether I could not be happier with her. Shes absolutly darling, and clearly the jewel in my collection ATM.
I cant wait to buy all sorts of awsome outfits for her, and accessories, and wigs, and and and…..oh my. I am hooked. 🙂
Goblyn is simply WAY too cute for my own good!

Elissabat

Next up on my recent additons: A brand new Monster High that I have had my eyes on since her photos started floating around the Internet.
Her and Jane Boolittle were the two new ones Iv been really excited about, and although my stores have yet to get Jane Boolittle in, I did manag to obtain Elissabat.

Im a huge fan of vampires, and I have a Draculaura already (and indeed there are some other Draculauras I would like to add to my collection). But Elissabat has a certain suave sofistication that Draculaura lacks.

 

The beautiful dress does a lot, its quasi medieval gothic look is captivating. The simplicity of the design intregues and draws me in. Her hair is immaculatly styled and she just embodies the sleek elegance of “less is more”

Her appeal to me is very similar to that of Raven Queen. Black and purple looks fantastic and her gothic vibe is mysterious and elegant all at once.
Am I saying elegant a lot? Im sorry, she just, WOW.

    

Shes also crazy photogenic too. She just looks friggen GOOD and I cant get over it. What a delightfully, darkly beautiful vampire lady. :3
Now I just need to track down a Jane Boolittle already!

Apple White and Madeline Hatter – Ever After High dolls!

Now that the Christmas buzz has died down a little bit I have some time to post some pictures of the dolls that I was the most excited to get.
I have been drooling for months over everyones pictures and reviews of the new Ever After High dolls. Things don’t tend to get to Canada as soon as other places, especially when the initial release isn’t for the typical big retailers like Toys R Us or Target. (Justice? Why???)

But finally, here are my first two Ever After High dolls. For Christmas from my lovely husband I received Madeline Hatter and Apple White.

Maddie is for sure the one I was the most pumped over. Iv loved ever photoset Iv seen of this doll and I love her character in the web series. Shes absolutely gorgeous and I LOVE. HER. HAIR. Wild, curly, colourful, whats not to love?? Shes so darling I could just eat her up. Her outfit is killer, her accessories are amazing, shes probably one of my most favourite dolls and Iv been waiting for her for so long.

One of the first things I notice about these is how stiff their joints are compared to a Monster High. They feel sturdier and more secure. They are a bit of a pain to pose but once you do get them into a pose you like, they aren’t moving!

 

Apple is lovely as well, and even if her character is a little less likeable in the series, you cant deny her visual design is gorgeous. I love her dress and style.
Of course I would have preferred the daughter of Snow White to have black hair instead of blond, but shes still very pretty. I really love the Apple theme and her hair is styled really nicely. I like how its all gathered to one side in soft ringlets.

The only trouble with her is that that strapless dress dosnt like to stay up! Iv had this trouble before with dolls in strapless dresses. Be careful putting her on the stand, because it likes to drag the dress down and — OOPS! Bit of a wardrobe malfunction 🙂

I am absolutely in LOVE with the Ever After High dolls. The dolls themselves seem to be higher quality then the Monster High dolls, which is saying a lot because the Monster High dolls are pretty darn good quality. These feel sturdier and stronger, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Medieval Lolita look to their outfits.

The next ones I absolutely need are Raven Queen and Cerise Hood. But who am I kidding. Ill probably get them all.

Dee Dressed and Fixed up!

You may recall that a short while ago I posted some pictures of my old childhood doll Dee. I didn’t have a lot of hope of ever getting him into decent shape, because he was so ratty and run down, but I have succeeded I think, in making him presentable again 😀

First of all I tracked down some acne cream with benzo peroxide, and treated his face for about a week. The pen marks came RIGHT OFF! Im very excited that he has a bright clean face again. Then I gave him a good wash, and unfortunately discovered that his body really is quite permanently stained that grey colour, unless I wanted to bleach him or something, but really the simpler solution seemed to be to clothe him, so that’s what I did.

I got the outfit from a lovely little Etsy shop. AM – PM Creations makes adorable handmade clothes for Bitty Baby and Bitty Twins dolls, which turn out to have almost the exact same measurements as my Dee. I don’t remember what clothes he originally came in, but Iv always associated him with the colour blue, so blue is what I went with. I think these pajamas suit him to a T!

 

No, he dosnt look “like new”, and never will again. But he looks presentable now am I am tickled as punch to put him on display now. Hes spent much too much time buried at the back of a closet 🙂

Elsa! Disney’s Frozen

After a very long and drawn out battle with UPS who lost my package, I have finally received my Disney Store order! This is the Disney Store exclusive Elsa doll, which as usual is worlds better and more movie accurate than Mattels version of the character.

I am SO EXCITED for Frozen, you have no idea. The new trailer looks amazing and I cannot wait for this to hit theaters next month. Im even more excited because of all the controversy buzzing about it, because I love me some good controversy. If you aren’t aware, people are angry that the characters are white, that the characters are blond (kind of? Their original hair colour has been changed by ice magic, but okay), that the characters look similar to the Tangled movie (because Disneys never done that before) and that the story, which is said to be based on The Snow Queen, has nothing to do with the Snow Queen at all except that it… has a Snow Queen in it.

Oh yes, discussing this movie will be fun.
Anyways, I absolutely love Elsas character design. So I ordered the Elsa doll and here she is!

Shes completely regal looking, and very icey. Her dress is gorgeous, all glittery and translucent. My only real issue with the dress is how stiff the fabric is… it dosnt flow very well, and this is kind of my reason for not getting the Anna doll as well. Her dress looked way too stiff and rigid. Elsas is better, but its still not nearly as full as I would like it to be and does not look nearly as good as Meridas dress for example.
That said, its still a great outfit and I really love that its elegant without being absurdly provocative. Elsas a classy lady 😉

No stand, so I have to display her sitting, which is not really how Id like to display her since Disney Store dolls sit really awkwardly with their legs splaying out. But Ill probably get a stand for her eventually.

Whats probably the best thing about this doll for me is the awesome hairstyle. Its wonderfully to look just like the movie, and its a very unique style that you wouldn’t probably see anywhere else. The product in the hair holds it in place and you can really get the feel that her hair has been frozen by ice magic.
The other thing is her pale pale skin tone. Shes exceptionally pale. with almost a purple hue, and it is very eerie looking. You can really buy that this character has been overtaken by ice magics and it looks fantastic.

All in all I really love this Elsa doll, and will probably get Anna too sometime down the line.

Catty Noir

Its time for another Monster High doll!
Id seen a bunch of reviews of her online and was kind of enchanted by her so I thought Id track her down. She came and went pretty quickly from my local Toys R Us so I didn’t get a chance to snatch her off the shelf, but was very pleased to find her offered on Amazon with free shipping, so here we go.

Pink and black is one of my absolute favourite colour combinations, so I was instantly taken with her appearance. Shes also a kitty cat, which I absolutely love. I LOVE anthro dolls, they have a lot of appeal to me, and they look great!
Shes absolutely stunning with her big hot pink hair and Im a huge fan of her massive pony tail. I do wish that the hair wasn’t so messy though, its a tad matted and brushing it dosnt really help. Im sort of afraid to touch it too much lest I make it worse, but it is very pretty.

Probably the only reason I waffled on this purchase at all (and as a result, missed getting her in store) is because Im not really sold on her dress. I like the huge pink ruffles, but Im not a huge fan of the broken glass pattern on the top. It looks a bit like spiderwebs to me and I don’t really think it fits. But she IS meant to be a music idol, so we can let a crazy outfit slide. I think it would be really fun to dress her up in a tiny Lady Gaga or Nicki Minaj replica outfit!

Here she is on the shelf! Brings my total of Monster High dolls to four.
Theres clearly some space for more 🙂
